A brief summary, including toxicity and treatment, for each of the following insecticides already in use or under consideration in Iraq, is given: chlorinated hydrocarbons (DDT, dieldrin, BHC (Gammexane), lindane, chlordane, aldrin, allethrine); organo-phosphorus and carbamate compounds (Diazinon, Nuvan, Filariol, Malathion, parathion, Chlorthion, Dipterex, Abate, Baygon); organic compounds of botanical origin (pyrethins, nicotine); inorganic compounds (lead arsenate). Signs and symptoms of anticholinesterase poisoning as well as general poisoning symptoms and specific treatment are also presented.
