40-year follow-up study on 2 groups of female workers; one group had manufactured gas masks containing chrysotile asbestos and the other had manufactured gas masks containing crocidolite asbestos. Excess mortality ascribed to lung cancer and ovarian cancer were found in the crocidolite workers but not in the chrysotile workers. Mesothelioma was mentioned on the death certificates of 5 women who had worked with crocidolite and 1 woman who had worked with chrysotile.
