The surface-active, adsorption, and foaming properties of aqueous solutions of perfluorononanoic acid (PFNA) derivatives were investigated. It was found that PFNA-COO has the highest surface activity of the individual derivatives, and an equimolar mixture of PFNA-NH4 and PFNA-I have the highest activity among the mixtures. Solutions of PFNA derivatives have a low foaming capacity and negative spreading coefficient over heptane. The foaming capacity can be increased and the thermodynamic condition of spontaneous spreading of solutions over heptane can be ensured by using mixtures of PFNA derivatives and hydrocarbon SF.
