Abstract
The scoping report is part of the preparation for drawing up the integrated criteria document mercury. The objective of the report is to bring the knowledge of the participants in the scoping meeting to the same level, and to put forward points for discussion and decision-making as to the contents of the integrated criteria document. It should be emphasized that the present report does not aim to be exhaustive: the actual standards and recommendations, the sources and exposure levels in the Netherlands are merely outlined, whereas on the other hand the principal effects and indicative maximum acceptable risk levels are described. Subsequently, problems will be pointed out and a proposal made as to the contents of the integrated criteria document mercury to be drawn up.
