Fruit phenology of Renealmia alpinia and its consumption by small mammals were observed in a gallery forest in a cerrado near Brasilia. Though R. alpinia presents a bicolored display (purple.and red fruits) which is characteristic of seeds dispersed by diurnal birds, we only traped the rodents Oecomys bicolor and O. concolor when we used its fruits as bait, and the consumption of fruits in the plant began only after all the fruits had ripened. Data indicate that these small mammals are playing a role of opportunistic frugivores, performing a low quality seed dispersion.
