Abstract
This chapter focuses on product development aspects associated with traditional fibrous products and discusses (a) common performance characteristics of traditional fibrous products, (b) the general relationships between performance characteristics and the attributes of fibrous components, (c) basic attributes of fabrics used for traditional fibrous products and (d) implementation of product development concepts for some traditional fibrous products. Two examples of products, denim and sportswear, that represent the largest share of the traditional market will be discussed in detail. Many aspects of the development of these two products are applicable to most traditional fibrous products.
