Abstract A TLV-TWA of 1000 ppm (7670 mg/m3) and a TLV-STEL of 1250 ppm (9590 mg/m3) are recommended for occupational exposure to 1,1,2-trichloro-1,2,2-trifluoroethane (FC-113) to minimize the potential, associated with exposure at extremely high concentrations, of narcosis, asphyxia, and cardiac sensitization and arrhythmia. Data from the exposure of human volunteers to CFC-113 indicate that the threshold concentration for impairment of human psychomotor performance, described as loss of ability to concentrate and mild lethargy, is about 2500 ppm. Although nasal tumors were found in rodents exposed for 2 years to CFC-113, they were of various morphological types and the incidences were not dose-related. Accordingly, an A4, Not Classifiable as a Human Carcinogen, notation is considered appropriate for CFC-113. Sufficient data were not available to recommend Skin or SEN notations.
