Abstract
Introduction: Carbon monoxide is a colourless, odourless gas. It enters the body primarily through inhalation, thought here is also nominal endogenous production of the gas. The principal source of production is the combustion of carbon compounds. Many situations in modem life may result in an acute exposure of pregnant women to carbon monoxide, and tobacco smoking is an important source of chronic exposure to carbon monoxide. The fetus has a particular susceptibility to carbon monoxide. It is important for the obstetrician to suspect carbon monoxide poisoning and to know the course of action to follow when acute intoxication with carbon monoxide in a pregnant woman is encountered.
