Abstract
In the present study, the ability of scavenging free
radicals of the ethanolic extract of Mollugo nudicaulis was determined by using 1,1-diphenyl-2-
picrylhydrazyl (DPPH), reducing power, ferric reducing antioxidant power (FRAP), hydroxyl radical
scavenging assay, superoxide radical scavenging (SOD), hydrogen peroxide radical scavenging
assay, nitric oxide scavenging assay (NO) and total antioxidant capacity assay. The results
showed that the ethanolic extract of Mollugo nudicaulis has a significant antioxidant activity.
The amount of flavonoids, tannin, phenol, carotene and lycopene were also determined. The extract
has the high amount of phenolic content. Thus, the study suggests that Mollugo nudicaulis has a
better source of natural antioxidants, which might be helpful in preventing the progress of
oxidative stress.
