Abstract
Nitrous Oxide (N(2)O) is a greenhouse gas that occurs naturally in the environment, but its concentrations are now rising. This gas causes serious environmental problems such as global warming and is considered as a dangerous pollutant. Biofiltration is an emerging technology that offers a number of advantages over traditional methods of air pollution control. Besides of its highly efficient removal of pollutants and low operating cost, it does not generate undesirable by products and it degrades many organic and inorganic compound into harmless oxidation products. In this research, biosorption study of Nitrous Oxide on the organic material. as biofilter was conducted. The effects of operational parameters such as column height and circulated gas flowrate on the efficiency of removal Nitrous Oxide from the gas mixture through biosorption by the biofilter were investigated. The result of this research showed that the highest removal efficiency (70.22%) was obtained at,the highest circulated gas flowrate of 200 cc/min and 50 cm biofilter length for 6 h circulation. The data obtained was fitted into Langmuir adsorption model and the model well described the adsorption behavior of N(2)O on to compost material.
