IPA COPYRIGHT: ASHP Chromatographic and spectrometric procedures were applied in the analysis of propallylonal (Noctal; I) in urine, collected over a period of 7 to 9 days, from human volunteers who received single oral doses of I (200 mg) and in the urine of rats over a period of 48 h, following a dose of 21 mg/kg of I. The 2 compounds found in the biological samples included unchanged I and the metabolite, 5-acetonyl-5-isopropyl-barbituric acid (II). Both compounds together were detected in a concentration of 25% (5.16% of I and 20.49% of II); 75% were probably metabolite conjugates or possibly ring-open compounds after hydrolysis.
