Abstract
PESTAB. Bacterial cleavage of the carbon-phosphorus bond was investigated. Bacteria were isolated that were capable of growing with one or more organophosphonates as sole sources of phosphorus. Cleavage of the C-P bond was shown for Pseudomonas putida growing with 2-aminoethylphosphonate and for Pseudomonas testosteroni growing with isopropyl hydrogen methylphosphonate, pinacolyl hydrogen methylphosponate or dihydrogen methylphosphonate as sole phosphorus sources. Various metabolites were identified by gas chromatography and mass spectrometry. (Author abstract by permission)
