The purpose of this work is to present two advanced technology vehicles capable to improve the environmental impact of transports - in terms of noxious emissions reduction - by introducing in the urban mobility hydrogen and electric city-cars instead of conventional gasoline mini-cars: in fact, due to the increasing environmental problems caused by the use of vehicles powered by combustion engines, the electrical vehicle has been considered as the alternative solution for keeping and even increasing the level of personal mobility and satisfying the transportation needs of the coming century. The utilisation of electrical vehicles is important especially in urban areas, in particular historical centres, where the noxious gases tend to accumulate for the presence of high buildings and narrow streets (street-canyon effect); in fact, the two proposed propulsion systems are characterised by no pollutant emission, thus allowing a notable reduction of carbon monoxide, sulphur and nitric oxides and Non-Methane Organic Compound (NMOC) emissions in urban and suburban areas, where the pollution issue is really heavy.
