Measurements of background concentration Values of SO2, O-3 and NOx have been carried out on a continuous basis for a period of ten months during 1999 with the aid of a mobile station that has been installed successively at three different geographically sites of Greece: the first near the borders of Greece with Albania, the second near the borders of Greece with Bulgaria and the third in central Greece. A unique database was, therefore, developed being characterised by high reliability and representativity, both spatial and temporal, that could further allow the evaluation of model results and help in the investigation of transport mechanisms of air pollutants to and from Greece in its northern and western border under different synoptic meteorological conditions. It was found that the concentration levels of measured air pollutants are quite low, while they differ among the three sites, in relation to the prevailing weather conditions.
