Abstract
The morphology and chemical state of surface of initial and
rejected endosseous dental implants are studied by means of the scanning electron microscopy.
These implants were fabricated from commercially pure Ti and Ti-6Al-4V alloy and were subjected
to various surface treatments. Clinical investigations showed that titanium implants with a
well-developed and clean surface integrate with bone matrix more effectively. As revealed, the
most part of rejected implants is characterized by the poorly developed surface, in which a large
amount of intruded Al2O3 and rare-metal oxides' microparticles is found. Formation of the bone-
rejected implant interface layer is accompanied with both the decalcination and the release of
titanium and aluminium ions in a bone matrix.
