Abstract
The frequency of textile dye dermatitis was investigated along with the usefulness of a textile dye series in diagnosing such cases. The population studied included 3336 patients with contact dermatitis. All were patch tested with the European standard series and 159 were also tested with with a series of 15 textile dyes. Twenty eight of the 3336 patients tested positive for textile dye dermatitis. Testing with the standard series showed that only eight of the 28 cases were positive for para-phenylenediamine (106503) (PPD). The author suggests that testing with an extended textile dye series may be of interest scientifically, but does not usually assist the patient.
