Abstract
Description the kinetics of dissociation of the first oxygen molecule from fully saturated oxyhemoglobin in sheep blood solutions. Details are given of a stopped flow apparatus suitable for measuring the rates of the rapid reactions of hemoglobin with oxygen and carbon-monoxide. Measurements are made of the overall velocity constants of combination of oxygen and of carbon-monoxide with sheep hemoglobin, and of the overall rate of dissociation of sheep oxyhemoglobin in the presence of sodium-hydrosulfite. The effect of p-chloromercuribenzoate on velocity constants is also discussed.
