Abstract
Photochemical aromatic nitration of anthranilic acid has been carried out in the presence of UV radiations and the formation of product has been observed spectrophotometrically. The effect of different variables like pH, concentration of nitrite ion, formate ion, anthranilic acid etc. was observed on the rate of the reaction. A tentative mechanism involving NO(2)(center dot) radicals has been proposed for photochemical nitration of anthranilic acid.
