Abstract
IPA COPYRIGHT: ASHP The relative sites of antiperspirant activity within the axillary eccrine sweat gland of aluminum chlorohydrate (I), aluminum zirconium chlorohydrate glycine complex (AZAP; II) and aluminum chloride (III) were determined in adult female subjects by the cellophane tape stripping procedure; individual functioning sweat glands were identified by the starch/iodine method prior to occlusive antiperspirant treatment, after treatment and after tape stripping. Results show that as in studies of the eccrine sweat glands in the human forearm, III acted most deeply within the duct, whereas the sites of action for I and, particularly, II were closer to the skin surface. On average, however, both I and II appeared to inhibit perspiration outflow at a deeper level in more individual axillary sweat ducts than forearm ducts.
