Abstract

IPA COPYRIGHT: ASHP Five healthy volunteers received a single dose of doxycycline polyphosphate alone, and with aluminum phosphate 5 min before or 2 h after administration, to determine the effects of aluminum phosphate on the pharmacokinetic parameters of doxycycline. Administration of aluminum phosphate before doxycycline significantly impaired absorption of the antibiotic. Relative availability of doxycycline was calculated at 48% when aluminum was given before and 74% when aluminum was given after the dose, compared to doxycycline administration only.
