Abstract
IPA COPYRIGHT: ASHP The antacid effects of Gastrex (dihydroxyaluminum mono-1-histidinate, combination, magnesium hydroxide); Maalox (aluminum hydroxide, combination, magnesium hydroxide); Marga (aluminum hydroxide, combination, calcium carbonate, magnesium hydroxide); Rennie (calcium carbonate, combination, magnesium hydroxide); and Siligaz (simethicone) were evaluated in 30 subjects (age 26-54 yr) using a provoked hyperchlorhydria test. Results showed that the preparations possessed antacid effects in the following decreasing order of effectiveness: Gastrex, Maalox, Siligaz, Rennie and Marga.
