IPA COPYRIGHT: ASHP The effects of propantheline bromide (Pro-Banthine; I) and a combination of aluminum hydroxide and magnesium hydroxide (Maalox) on ranitidine hydrochloride (Zantac; II) absorption were studied in 12 subjects. Ranitidine 150 mg was administered alone, with 30 ml of antacid or preceded by 15 mg I. Ten serum samples were obtained over 12 h during each treatment period for measurement of II blood levels. The antacid had no significant effect on II absorption, but I increased the relative bioavailability of II by 22%. In addition, there was a trend for I to increase the maximum II serum levels and the time to maximum serum levels.
