Abstract
IPA COPYRIGHT: ASHP Chlorocresol dissolution curves obtained from creams and emulsions were correlated with the inhibition or the death of E. coli inoculated into those formulations. Formulations studied included aqueous and oily cetomacrogol creams, Veegum (magnesium aluminum silicate) suspensions, and polysorbate 80 dispersions. Although some correlation exists between the concentration of the suspending agents and the activity of the preservative, the critical and the exact concentration of preservative required cannot be assessed by the dissolution method discussed.
