Abstract
Organotin contamination was studied in marine animals along intertidal zone at Shekou Harbor and Shenzhen Bay. Organotin compounds were quantified by gas chromatography-flame photometric detector (GC-FPD), after sample pretreatment with simultaneous liquid-liquid extraction with iso-octane and derivatization with tetraethyl borate. Result showed that the concentrations of triphenyltin (TPT), tributyltin (TBT) and its metabolite dibutyltin (DBT) in bivalves were 127.1 similar to 349.1, 6.3 similar to 380.8 and 2.7 similar to 99.9ng/g (wet weight) respectively. The concentrations of TPT were 567.3 similar to 651.6ng/g (wet weight) in Nerita albicilla Linnaeus collected from Chiwan and Dongjiaotou. Monobutyltin (MBT) was not detected in all mollusks. The concentration of TPT was 127.1ng/g (wet weight) in Balanus amphitrite collected from Hongshulin, while butyltins were not detected in Balanus amphitrite. Comparing the present results with reported data worldwide, it is shown that marine animals along intertidal zone at Shekou Harbor were severely contaminated by organotins, and marine animals in Shenzhen Bay were also contaminated by organotins. Since national mangrove and bird nature reserve at Shenzhen Bay is very important for keeping biodiversity and protecting migrating birds, more attentions should be paid to the problem of organotin contamination in Shenzhen Bay.
