HEEP COPYRIGHT: BIOL ABS. Cyclofenil (F-6066) is an effective antagonist of dimethylbenz(a)anthracene (DMBA) induced rat mammary tumor growth. In contrast to all presently tested antiestrogens, the drug produces its antitumor effect without detectable modification of the estrus cycle. All other antiestrogens induced permanent diestrus. These results indicate that strong antiestrogenic effect is not required to interfere with tumor growth, and weak antiestrogens might be useful for human breast cancer treatment. A strong enough binding affinity for estrogen receptors might be a requirement for antitumor activity.
