Abstract
IPA COPYRIGHT: ASHP To assess the efficacy and safety of verapamil (I) at a dose of 415 mg/day in 3-6 divided doses, 16 angina pectoris patients, ranging in age from 35 to 61 yr were studied in a double-blind randomized trial for a period of 9 months. During treatment with I the frequency of angina fell substantially (12.6 chest pains/week with placebo, 1.7 pains/week with I), as did the use of nitroglycerin tablets (14.4 tablets/week with placebo, 2.1 tablets/week with I). It was concluded that I is safe and effective in the therapy of variant angina pectoris.
