IPA COPYRIGHT: ASHP The stability of nitroglycerin (I) in 0.9% sodium chloride or 5% dextrose solutions was examined under various conditions of temperature, light, packaging materials, administration set and time. Stability was found to be independent of I source (powder or tablet), vehicle and exposure to light. Refrigerated storage for 6 months resulted in no decrease in concentration, while 20% loss was noted when I was stored at room temperature after 3 months. Effects of temperatures ranging from 6-38DG over 24 hr are noted. Decreased concentrations were noted when I solutions came in contact with rubber stoppers or plastic administration sets and bags.
