Abstract
IPA COPYRIGHT: ASHP Acute cardiotoxicity and myocardial infarction occurring 30 days after treatment in a 34-yr-old patient who was treated for anaphylaxis with 2 doses of a one to 1000 dilution of epinephrine (I), 0.3 mg SC and 0.5 mg IV, were reported. The patient had also received diphenhydramine hydrochloride. The acute toxic effects were treated with morphine sulfate, 2 mg IV, and nitroglycerin, 0.4 mg sublingually. A review of the mechanism of anaphylaxis, the mechanism of action of I and recommendations for the use of I in the therapy of anaphylaxis was included.
