IPA COPYRIGHT: ASHP The ability of transdermal nitroglycerin (Nitrodisc; I) to induce vasodilation resulting in erection in a 53-yr-old man, and its absorption through the mucous membranes of the vaginal walls of his wife following intercourse, are reported. The man was using two 10 mg transdermal I patches, prescribed to be alternately replaced every 12 h, for coronary atherosclerotic heart disease. On 2 occasions, the patient rubbed a patch that had been worn for 12 h and another worn for 24 h on his penis. Within 5 min, the patient had an erection followed with sexual intercourse with his wife. The patient's wife complained of severe headache min later.
