Abstract
IPA COPYRIGHT: ASHP The stability of high-concentration dopamine hydrochloride, norepinephrine bitartrate (Levophed), epinephrine hydrochloride, and nitroglycerin in 5% dextrose injection at ambient temperature and humidity was studied; solutions were prepared by adding 50 ml of 5% dextrose injection and 320 mg of dopamine hydrochloride (6.4 mg/ml), 3.2 mg of norepinephrine bitartrate (64 mcg/ml), and 5 mg of epinephrine hydrochloride (100 mcg/ml) in polyvinyl chloride (PVC) minibags, and 250 ml of 5% dextrose and 250 mg of nitroglycerin (1 mg/ml) in glass bottles. Results showed that dopamine hydrochloride 6.4 mg/ml and nitroglycerin 1 mg/ml in 5% dextrose injection were stable for up to 24 h at 23DGC and ambient humidity without protection from light. Norepinephrine bitartrate 64 mcg/ml and epinephrine hydrochloride 100 mcg/ml in 5% dextrose injection were stable for up to 24 h at 23DGC and ambient humidity with protection from light.
