PESTAB. Three organic tin compounds (bistributyltin oxide, monobutyltin oxide, monobutyltin trilaurate, tin dibutyl difluoroacetate) were tested for mutagenic activity. Fruit flies and mammalian bone marrow cells were studied after exposure to the compounds. The percentages of abnormal mammalian bone marrow anatelophases were 11.7% for bistributyltin oxide, 13.2% for monobutyltin trilaurate, and 6.2% for tin dibutyl ditrifluoroacetate, compared to 2.3% for controls. Chromatid gaps and unicentric fragments were the most prominent abnormalities.
