The final report on the safety assessment of adipic-acid-dihydrazide (29659389) (AADH) of the Cosmetic Ingredient Review (CIR) Expert Panel was presented. The physicochemical properties of AADH were summarized. AADH had been used as a chemical additive in a variety of cosmetic products in the past, but there were no reported uses of AADH reported to the FDA in 1992. Data reported to the FDA in 1984 indicated that AADH was used in sachets and other fragrances at concentrations below 0.1%. The European Economic Community has prohibited the use of hydrazides and their salts in cosmetic products. It indicated that AADH would probably come under the general ban on all hydrazides in cosmetic products. No toxicological data for AADH were presented. According to the CIR Expert Panel, available data were insufficient to support the safe use of AADH in cosmetic products.
