In this paper, mechanochemical effect of brucite powder in a wet ultrafine grinding process is studied. The results show that fresh surfaces of brucite particles are formed during the grinding process. The solubility of Mg(OH)(2) increases in the first 3 h of grinding. The crystal size and lattice deformation of brucite particles decrease in the first 3 h and are leveled off after 3 h. As the concentrations of Mg2+ and Off ions increase to a certain level, recrystallization would occur. The dominant face for comminution and recrystallizaiton of Mg(OH)(2) occur mainly on the (001) and the newly formed crystals are easily maintained due to less comminution on (110) face.
