Abstract
There is some confusion in the published literature over the precise identification of the tested material, as the terms di(2-ethylhexyl) sebacate and di-n-octyl sebacate (the straight chain isomer) are commonly used as synonyms. The ester was not an irritant or a sensitizer to the skin of humans or rabbits. Acute oral and dermal toxicity in rodents was low. Limited studies involving repeated oral administration to rats showed effects on the liver (including peroxisome proliferation) but there was no evidence of carcinogenicity or reproductive toxicity. No mutagenicity was demonstrated in an Ames bacterial test.
