Abstract
IPA COPYRIGHT: ASHP SB-7505 (ibopamine; I), administered by mouth, was investigated in 28 hospitalized patients of both sexes at 3 doses (25, 50 and 75 mg) against a placebo in a double blind scheme. The parameters investigated were: heart rate, systolic arterial pressure, diastolic arterial pressure, mean pressure and diuresis. All the parameters were measured in time over 5 hr except for diuresis, which was measured cumulatively after the entire 24 hr period. The results showed that the drug mainly affects diuresis, which increased 24% in comparison with the placebo, and to a lesser degree the other parameters, which increased by 5 to 8%. The variations observed were correlated with the dose administered in the case of diuresis, systolic arterial pressure and mean arterial pressure, being more evident in the highest dose of 75 mg. The variations in the parameters measured indicated a dose dependent activity of I, even if the variations encountered were not high (except diuresis) and they were in no case outside the normal range.
