Abstract
IPA COPYRIGHT: ASHP Terpene hydrocarbons from Pinus pinea essential oil were isolated by column chromatography and the monoterpenes were separated from the sesquiterpenes by high vacuum distillation. Micropreparative GLC was employed to obtain pure specimens of either mono and sesquiterpene individual components which were then identified by IR spectrometry. In the monoterpene fraction, the quantity of beta-pinene and beta-phellandrene varied with tissue age. In the sesquiterpene fraction the ratio of alpha-longipinene and alpha-pinene was 1:10.
