IPA COPYRIGHT: ASHP A cream containing a locally active synthetic anti-inflammatory corticoid, formocortal, labeled with tritium was applied to the skin of a mini pig with or without a previous stripping of the superficial epidermis, in order to determine the penetration of the compound into the skin. The radioactivity was determined in samples of skin taken at various intervals of time after the application of the cream. The results obtained showed that the radioactivity is present in all the layers of the epidermis and dermis as in the underlying adipose tissue both in intact and in the stripped areas. The distribution of the radioactivity seems in some way correlated to the time elapsed from the application and to the morphology of the skin.
