IPA COPYRIGHT: ASHP The effects of desmopressin acetate (1-deamino-8-D-arginine vasopressin acetate; DDAVP; Minirin; I) on coagulation impairment of patients with chronic liver disease were studied in 8 patients (aged 44-67 yr) with non-ascitic cirrhosis of the liver given intravenous I, 0.5 mcg/kg added to 50 ml isotonic saline solution and infused over 15 min. It was shown that I infusion was followed by an improvement in coagulation indices. No side effects of the infusion were observed. It was concluded that I infusion seems to be a promising approach to the control of bleeding in patients with chronic liver disease.
