Abstract
To reduce the noise from industrial machinery, it is essential to damp the vibration in sheet-metal machine structures. An introduction on the physical and mathematical fundamentals of free undamped vibration, free damped vibration and forced damped vibration is followed by sections on damping, damping measurement and the forces involved. These theoretical fundamentals are used as the basis for practical solutions: damping of structures by means of a free layer of visco-elastic polymers (partial cover, advantages and uses, calculation) and by means of a bonded layer (partial cover, strips of damping material, advantages and uses, examples of calculations).
