IPA COPYRIGHT: ASHP The interactions between 6 natural or semi-synthetic rifamycins and bacterial collagenase were studied in vitro. The rifamycins produced a marked inhibition of enzyme activity, with a concentration causing half-maximal inhibition (IC-50) ranging from 13.1 to 20.7 muM. The inhibitory effect was reversible as demonstrated by restoration of enzymatic activity by dialysis.
