Abstract
The electromagnetic interface with pacemakers as produced by GSM Base Transceiver Stations is analyzed and safety distances for pacemaker bearers given. The analysis derives from the German Draft Standard E DIN VDE 0848-3-1, which gives the formulae to calculate the allowable field strength a pacemaker bearer can be exposed to without any risk, where the pacemaker interference threshold voltage is known. From the electric field strength it is possible to calculate the safety distances from GSM Base Transceiver Stations for pacemaker subjects.
