IPA COPYRIGHT: ASHP The effects of captopril, 150-500 mg daily, on blood pressure and systemic hemodynamics were studied in 10 patients with mild to moderate essential hypertension and normal renal function. Hemodynamics showed a statistically significant decrease of blood pressure in all patients and an individual marked variability in cardiac output and total peripheral vascular resistance. It was determined that factors other than angiotensin II blockade are involved in the antihypertensive effect of captopril.
