Abstract
IPA COPYRIGHT: ASHP The isolation and crystallization of calcium benzoate from shilajit, an asphalt like substance used as a general tonic in Nepal, are described. The presence of this compound may account for the antiseptic effects of shilajit and thus justify its use to cure microbial gastrointestinal infections due to poor hygiene.
