Abstract
IPA COPYRIGHT: ASHP An incompatibility between Betadine (povidone-iodine) and Lavacol (denatured 70% alcohol) resulting in a loss of free iodine is reported. The ingredients of Lavacol are denatonium benzoate, acetone, methyl isobutyl ketone (isopropylacetone) and ethanol sufficient to make a 70% solution. It was suggested that acetone and methyl isobutyl ketone were responsible for the inactivation of iodine.
