HAPAB An analytical method for the determination of p-nitrom-cresol (NC) in the urine of persons exposed to fenitrothion was worked out. The method may serve as a sensitive test of exposure. NC is released from the conjugated form of hydrolysis and separated by extraction with acetonitrile from an alkaline medium and with a mixture of petroleum ether and ethyl ether from an acidic medium. It is separated from coextracts by thin-layer chromatography on silica gel and is determined spectrophotometrically as the yellow sodium nitrocresolate. The mean results of control determinations was 98 plus/minus 9.6%; the lower limit of detection was 2 mcg NC in 20 ml urine. (Author abstract edited) 1969
