Abstract
IPA COPYRIGHT: ASHP The epicutaneous vasoactivity of topical minoxidil (Regaine; I), 3% solution in propylene glycol/ethanol/water was compared with 0.1% hexyl nicotinate (II) in 10 healthy young men with androgenetic alopecia. Results showed that in no volunteer was increased scalp blood flow elicited with topical I or with vehicle alone, while in 9 men there was increased blood flow with II. It was concluded that I is not vasoactive when applied to the scalp at a concentration and in a vehicle that has successfully caused hair regrowth.
