Abstract
IPA COPYRIGHT: ASHP The effect of propylene glycol on the SC absorption of an ionic drug, 5(6)-isobutylsulfinyl-2-carbomethoxyaminobenzimidazole HCl (I), was investigated in cows. The absorption rate of I was higher for formulations containing propylene glycol than for aqueous solution, with a combination vehicle showing intermediate absorption rate values. These results are in direct contrast to results with nonionic drugs. The solubility effects of propylene glycol on ionic species is discussed to explain the contrast.
