Abstract
Proceedings of the Second Australian Pneumonconiosis Conference were presented. The conference covered practical aspects of industrial dust exposure and control, discussed Australia's problems regarding industrial dust exposure, and considered overseas developments in relation to these factors. Individual sessions focused on the pneumoconiosis problem in Australia; gravimetric dust sampling techniques; dust exposure standards; medical problems arising from dust exposures; dust control in the coal mining industry; asbestos exposure and resulting disease; organized labor's involvement in dust control issues; personal respiratory protective devices; and dust control in quarries, metalliferous mines, and the manufacturing industry. Final recommendations were made to establish a national advisory group to oversee dust control activities and research programs, to facilitate cooperation among the interested parties and to fully utilize available control resources for the control of industrial dust exposure problems.
