Abstract
HEEP COPYRIGHT: BIOL ABS. The mutagenicity of a preparation of 1-chloro-2-propanol containing 2-chloro-1-propanol for Salmonella typhimurium TA1530 but not for TA1538 was readily demonstrated, which indicates that the mutations induced by chloropropanol are of the base-substitution type. The possibility of alternate sterilizing procedures for food products in order to reduce to a minimum human exposure to mutagenic substances should be investigated.
