Abstract
New asbestos regulations from OSHA allow glovebags to be used in maintenance operations or removal of asbestos from straight runs of pipe without any size limitations. OSHA requirements for glovebags include both bag material and design features. OSHA specifications include: 1. The minimum thickness for glovebag plastic is 6 mils. 2. Glovebags must be impervious to fiber release. 3. Glovebags must be constructed without a bottom seal or weld. The revised OSHA regulations specify a number of procedures that must be followed to assure workers using glovebags and other workers in the vicinity will not be exposed to asbestos concentrations above permissible limits, including: 1. Each glovebag may be used only once. 2. Critical barriers over openings must be provided. 3. At least 2 persons must perform glovebag removal.
